Just hanging around and relaxing in the wild must be one of the best feelings ever.

It’s you, maybe some of your travel partners and mother nature. What more to ask for?

A good hammock maybe! You know, to hang out! (get it?)

I know, I would make a terrible comedian. But I know a thing or two about hammocks.

Listen up!

Over the past few years, I have learned one thing about hammocks: they are a cool addition to hiking trips and spending time outside in general.

And because I want you to have the best experience when spending time by nature, I created this complete guide of the best hammock brands, which should allow you to find the hammock that will become your partner on your next adventure.

Why Buy a Hammock Only from the Best Hammock Brands

First things first! Why should you even consider getting your hands on a hammock?

In short, they provide a nice change of pace from sleeping in a traditional tent, and they are great fun for hikers traveling in large groups!

A hammock is something a camper really needs to depend on. It’s supposed to keep you safe and dry while you’re asleep.

That’s a big job, and it’s not something you should leave up to cheap, low-quality brands.

Knockoffs can be dangerous. Can you imagine falling through your hammock and hitting the ground in the middle of the night?

Don’t take the chance with low-quality hammocks – buy one from a reliable brand.

After spending a couple of nights in my first hammock, I realized a couple of things.

Just as I have always been, you too are counting on a hammock to provide you with a safe place to sleep out in the wilderness.

Independent Wolf Orange Camping Hammock

You see, it might seem like all hammocks are the same – after all, they’re just a piece of material you strap to a tree and sleep in. That’s what I thought too!

This is a wrong assumption to make: there are a lot of factors that go into the quality of a hammock. If you choose the right one the first time, that hammock should last you for years of incredible camping or hiking trips.

Over the past few years since I started hammock camping, I have used different types of hammocks, from a variety of brands.

And I have learned a lot from this. Now, it’s time you learn what I had to learn by myself over the past few years.

I can tell you now, there are several things you should consider before you purchase a hammock for your next camping trip.

To get started, you will want to understand how hammocks are differentiated by several factors, such as cost, weight, strength, capacity, and use.

Picking the Right Camping Hammock

It’s hard to beat a hammock for a comfortable night’s rest near nature.

Hammocks have turned out to be progressively mainstream for campers, backpackers and exploring bunches since they not only keep you out of the dirt, they can likewise provide protection from bugs and other elements.

For you to become a hammock aficionado, take a look at the shopping tips below:

First and foremost, you will want to consider the cost of your hammock.

Buying all of the necessary supplies for camping can add up quickly, so you will probably want to set a budget and make sure you are getting the best quality hammock for your money.

Keep in mind this. For the most part, they are all pretty similar! Not the same, but similar.

Of course, some have their differences and what not, but most of them are made by the same large manufacturers, with a specific brand name attached to them. Which means there is really no need to blow a ton of cash here.

Don’t get me wrong. If you are really serious about this, a good investment will pay back!

As with everything in backpacking, you will want to consider the weight of a hammock before you buy it. When you are packing, every single ounce can make a difference between an exhausting and unenjoyable trip or a fun and enjoyable trip.

Most hammocks don’t weigh a lot by themselves. They aren’t like tents, which require metal or fiberglass poles to set up.

Hammocks have a few small metal accessories, such as carabiners, but everything else is usually made of a lightweight fabric.

Some hammocks can weigh as little as 7 oz while others can go up more than 20 oz. Lighter models are usually narrower and shorter than standard hammocks so shop wisely.

Weight only becomes an issue when you factor in accessories.

Consider your chosen suspension system will add up some 10 to 15 ounces to the total weight. Factor in other additional accessories such as rainfly, mosquito net, guylines, and straps.

Make sure you aren’t overloading your camping bag.

You will want to make sure you get the lightest hammock without compromising too much on the other elements such as strength.

For me, one of the best things about hammocks is their portability.

And that is why weight matters. You want to have a hammock that you can simply throw in there with all the other stuff and not feel a difference.

Speaking of weight…

Hammock Carrying Capacity

Hammocks usually have a maximum carry weight limits ranging from 150 to 500 lbs. Look out for these specs before buying one from a retail store.

If you are ordering from an online store such as Amazon.com, the specs are usually mentioned in the product description.

In the event that you hope to relax with a friend every now and then, make sure to get a substantial model.

Take note: weight limit alludes to static weight. Any kind of hopping all over in the hammock may abbreviate its lifespan and performance.

Understanding the Suspension System

Camping Hammock in the Forest

There are two kinds of suspension systems for hammocks – ropes, and tree straps.

Hammock setup needs a suspension system plus a pair of carabiners. Some manufacturers provide the two with the hammock while others offer either or both items as separate accessories.

Webbing straps should be wider than 0.75’’ to avoid the risk of spoiling the tree when weighted. Nylon ropes should not be overly stretchy that they could swing to the ground.

Keep in mind that hammocks with plenty of attachment points allow more setup flexibility in the types of trees that you can use.

The majority of people prefer to choose hammocks that either come with strap suspension systems or buy hammocks from companies that offer those systems separately. And I like straps more than the ropes too!

Straps are the easiest way to hang a hammock, and they’re virtually foolproof. They come in different lengths, and they wrap right around a tree.

All you need to do is clip the carabiners of the hammocks to the straps at your desired length and height, and you’re ready to go.

Rope systems are a little more complicated, but you can do just about anything with them. If you’re camping in an area where you may need to be clever in the way you rig up your hammock, ropes can help.

You can tie ropes to just about anything as long as you’re using the right knots. Some people prefer the security of a hammock they’ve tied up themselves, rather than a hammock that’s been hung with the preconfigured loops on the factory straps.

I don’t mind them and have never had any problems with straps, so I can say, they’re good and will last.

Quality of the Stitching

Travel Tree Hammock

Strength is obviously another important factor to consider when you are looking into buying a hammock.

If you neglect to consider the strength of your hammock, you may very well end up falling out on your butt.

There is absolutely no use in purchasing a single stitched hammock. It’s unsafe, and it might even fall apart on you while you’re sleeping in it.

This has never happened to me, however, I know a few stories like this. I mean, you don’t want to be waking up in the middle of the night because you just hurt your back after the fall.

A good hammock needs to be at least double stitched, and most premium hammock brands use triple stitching on their seams to reduce the risk of the hammock ripping.

Of course, the amount of stitching doesn’t matter if you’re exceeding the weight limit – never put more weight in a hammock than the manufacturer says is safe.

Hammocks and sunset

You will want to make sure you purchase a hammock made out of good, quality materials and that the hammock is designed to hold your weight.

Different hammock brands and styles hold different weights, so take that into consideration.

Ultimately, it comes down to better materials making your hammock stronger and more durable for multiple years of use.

Remember, I mentioned earlier that most of the hammocks are basically the same.

Well, it also applies to the materials used in the making of a hammock. I guarantee you, most of them will be made by one of the few materials used in the production of hammocks all over the world. And for the most part, they all last.

One of the last main factors you will want to consider before you purchase your hammock is how you will be using it.

The Comfort Factor

Orange Independent Wolf Hammock

You’re going to be sleeping in a hammock, and nobody gets much sleep when they’re uncomfortable. Keep in mind, the first night could be a disaster, if you don’t know how to position yourself.

In terms of length and width dimensions, hammock widths vary from about 4 feet to 8.5 feet, with 6 to 7 feet serenely pleasing either alone camper or couple.

Solo sleepers typically go smaller depending on how much room you like to stretch out to. However, remember that a hammock too wide will wrap more around you and make you feel claustrophobic.

Taller or wider people may need something other than the average hammock in order to be able to get a good night’s rest.

The length changes considerably less than width, yet tall sleepers ought to look for models longer than 8 feet. Once again, to a great extent, it’s a matter of individual inclination.

If you are planning on sharing your hammock with another person, you will want to make sure the capacity is large enough to accommodate more than one person comfortably.

Oftentimes, people who find that a standard size hammock is a little too snug for their liking will opt for a double hammock.

Just remember, no matter what anybody says, sleeping together with someone in a hammock is not a good idea.

No matter how close you both are, it’s a lot better to get two separate hammocks.

Double hammocks can technically fit two campers, but many campers prefer to use them alone because they want the extra room to spread out.

Also, you want to make sure the actual fabric of the hammock is soft and breathable to keep things from getting humid or moist while you’re trying to sleep.

Another layer of the comfort factor is whether or not your hammock can be used with a hammock mattress or a sleeping pad.

These two things are very important in the winter because sleeping pads are usually designed to help retain body heat. They’re also great for people who need a little more back support.

They’re always optional, but if you’d like to have that choice, make sure the hammock you’re getting is wide enough to accommodate a mattress or sleeping pad.

Some hammocks are designed for day use. They are typically much lighter, easier to pack, and made for a few hours of relaxation.

Insulation – Friend or Enemy?

Most hammock setups use lightweight, breathable nylon to keep you cool through the late spring months – substantially cooler than an encased tent.

Note that a couple of hammocks are made of cotton material. These are expected entirely for easygoing home use since they tend to be heavier, difficult to transport and dry slowly when rained on.

However, for hammock camping in crisp and breezy conditions, you’ll have to warm up with optional accessories such as topquilts, underquilts, or sleeping pads.

The best way to use the underquilt is to attach it to the hammock and not inside. This is because your body weight compresses the insulation and decreases its viability.

Hammocks, for the most part, come with accessories, such as the straps.

tree straps with carabiners

If you want to make sure what you’re going to get is compatible with the hammock you’ve chosen, the best thing to do is to either buy everything in a bundle or stick to separate accessories made by the same brand.

Straps are the most popular accessory that manufacturers include with the hammock, although not every brand bundles them with their products.

Mosquito nets and rain fly attachments are the two most common hammock accessories.

A good mosquito net attaches right to the bed of the hammock, preventing bugs and critters from disturbing campers while they sleep.

A rain fly, in my opinion, is a must-have attachment. It’s sort of like a special waterproof tarp that campers pitch above their hammock to protect them from the weather.

I have never been (unfortunately) to a hiking trip where it didn’t rain during the night.

Unexpected precipitation can put a damper on any outdoor trip so it’s wise to plan for it. Most hammock models offer a discretionary weatherproof tarp designed to shield you from the elements Mother Nature tosses on your way.

Some other models incorporate the tarp as a major aspect of the hammock price tag.

They also provide shade on hot days in areas where the tree canopy is thin, giving you a cool place to rest.

Picking the Right Colors

Tree hammock in the forest near to sea

The colors of your hammock mean a lot more than you think. It all depends on the context of your camping trip.

You know, if you want to hide out, you need to look for camouflage colors. If not, brighter colors are just fine.

I mean, this is common sense and it all depends on what you prefer. So there is not much to talk about here. I would rather get down to business and talk about the brands.

TOP 9 Best Hammock Brands and Camping Hammock Reviews 2019

There are several popular hammock brands, that will guarantee you get yourself a good quality hammock. I have tested out a few of them and have a good idea of what each is best for.

This is important because I want you to learn about the pros and cons of each brand.

I have also specifically reviewed the best model from each of the brands so you get a better idea what they are all about.

Eagle’s Nest Outfitters (ENO)

Overall Rating: 9

ENO is one of the most popular hammock brands on the market, which is no surprise because they make great hammocks. If you have already looked into hammocks, you must have heard about them.

If you’ve ever read an ENO hammock review, you’ll know that they’ve impressed the vast majority of campers who have given them a shot.

They are made out of parachute material, so they are incredibly durable and can hold more weight than most other brands.

Why do I want to point this out now?

ENO just as all other hammock brands will try to sell the name Parachute Nylon as the ultimate material to look for, by telling you that it is the same thing that parachutes are made from.

Which must be a good thing!

Of course, it is. But none of the manufacturers who try to sell you on this factor alone are special. Almost all hammocks on the market are made from Nylon.

eno hammock in beach

Back to ENO hammocks!

They are great for people who are on a budget at first because most of the extras, such as rainflies and bug nets, are sold separately.

So you can either buy everything all at once or start with the basics and add more as you start using your hammock more often, which gives you the chance to spend less at the beginning.

Unfortunately for backpackers, most of these hammocks are fairly heavy in comparison to other brands because they are made of the heavier and more durable material.

ENO Hammock Reviews

The DoubleNest is one of the most popular ENO’s hammocks.

It safely supports up to 400 pounds of user weight, and it’s made of 70D nylon taffeta.

This is a soft and strong material, and it’s been triple stitched for the maximum amount of durability.

It weighs 1.45 pounds, and it’s 9.4 feet long by 6.2 feet wide. The construction of this hammock uses the latest technology for a hammock that’s both dependable and cozy enough for a great night’s rest.

  • This hammock utilizes a combination of nautical grade interior line and aluminum wire grade carabiners, which are some of the best available materials for any kind of camping gear.
  • The size of this hammock makes it very versatile. It can comfortably fit two sleepers, but it’s also spacious enough for one camper. If you’re a little on the heftier side or you need the room to spread out, you’ll enjoy using this as a single sleeper.
  • The nylon taffeta used to construct this hammock is the ideal combination of soft and durable. You can get a great nights’ sleep in a hammock you can truly trust to hold you.
  • The hammock doesn’t come with straps, a rain fly, or a bug net. You’ll need to piece together a custom combination that will work for you.

ENO Sub7 comes highly recommended for people looking for a lightweight day-use hammock.

Unlike most of ENO’s other hammocks, the Sub7 is light and packable while still managing to hold 300 pounds.

  • The Sub7’s biggest advantages are its weight, 6.5 ounces, and it’s ability to be easily packed.
  • Though it is light and packable, it is still tremendously durable.
  • Like most things in life, the Sub7 still has its downfalls. It is on the short end when it comes to the overall length of the hammock, so if you are taller, you might be more comfortable in another hammock.
  • It also doesn’t come with straps, so you will have to buy those separately.

Though it has its shortcoming, the Sub7 is an overall great option. It is one of the best ENO hammocks and has been recommended on more than one ENO hammock review.

It’s weight, packability, and durability make it one of the best hammocks and ENO one of the best hammock brands.

So what can I say about ENO? Yes, they are good. But to be honest, all these are good.

I guess I can say that I would prefer ENO when looking for a day hammock. Just to hang out and so on.

Overall Rating: 9

Hennessy is one of the best camping hammock brands you can buy. It is often compared to ENO, and most people have very strong opinions towards one or the other.

They are typically more expensive than ENO, but that is because most hammocks are sold with the accessories, unlike ENO’s hammocks.

They are typically light-weight hammocks, but they are still made out of high-quality materials.

While, on average, they do not hold as much weight as ENO hammocks, they are still durable and able to hold most people but are not good for sleeping more than one person.

Hennessy designed their hammocks for the true adventurer. These aren’t the kind of hammocks you’ll want to hang up in your backyard when you aren’t out exploring the world – they’re the kind of hammocks you’ll want to keep stored away safely until you’re ready to start your newest journey.

Hennessy is a rugged brand for the rough and tough outdoor enthusiast, and they’ve developed their products specifically to cater to this audience.

Most people buy Hennessy hammocks for their cutting-edge hammock innovations, such as built-in bug nets, the ability to get in from the bottom, and multiple add-ons to help enhance your hammock experience.

Hennessy Hammock Review

Hennessy Hammock Hyperlite is one of the best camping hammocks for backpackers looking for a lot of protection from the elements.

It provides a lot of protection with its rain tarp and bug net, but it is still light even with all of its extras.

It has been named as one of the best hammocks on more than one Hennessy hammock review.

  • The Hyperlite’s biggest advantages are its weight, 2 pounds and 4 ounces with the accessories, and the accessories that come with it.
  • It is made of high quality materials, which is why it is still so light, and you can choose between a side zip or bottom entry.
  • The cons of owning a Hyperlight is that it only holds 200 pounds, and it is less durable than other options.
  • It is also on the more expensive end of the cost spectrum.

Another great entry by Hennessy is this hammock…

If you only read one Hennessy hammock review, make it this one. The expedition series hammock is just as fit for a camping trip as it is for a full-blown safari.

This is one of the most versatile hammocks on the market, designed completely for the protection of a camper facing the elements.

It’s designed to hold campers up to 6 feet tall, weighing up to 250 pounds. The carry weight is a little less than 3 pounds, and it packs down to a 4-inch by 7-inch by 9-inch size that you can slide right into your camping back.

It comes in olive green, so hunters will appreciate its discrete profile on the campsite.

  • Included mesh net will keep the bugs out. It completely zips to hold a camper inside, leaving no gaps where insects may be able to travel in.
  • The rain fly that comes with this hammock is super long for extra protection. It offers so much coverage that you can store your gear beneath the hammock while you’re camping, and it won’t get rained on.
  • The hammock is constructed of 210D Oxford nylon. While this material is a little heavier to carry than the others, it’s certainly one of the strongest available. It will never snag or scratch, and the seams are reinforced.
  • Since this hammock has a height limit of 6 feet and a weight limit of 250 pounds, not all campers will be able to use it comfortably.

Nothing is tougher than this hammock. Hennessy is one of the best hammock brands for true explorers who need to be able to handle anything at any time.

This hammock is nearly military-grade – you won’t find anything designed to offer more protection than this hammock.

This is made for every camper on every trip – there’s no need to take extra precautions when you choose this hammock.

Hennessy’s innovative hammock designs make it one of the best camping hammock brands.

These are actually a bit different and I could feel the difference when using them. Is that a good reason to choose one of Hennessy’s hammock?

You tell me!

Wise Owl Outfitters

Overall Rating: 9

As far as budget hammocks go, it doesn’t get much better than their offerings.

Wise Owl Outfitters makes hammocks nearly as good as ENO’s for a fraction of the price. If you’re really enticed by ENO hammocks but you don’t have that kind of budget, Wise Owl is going to be a great alternative for you.

They offer both single and double hammocks in 11 different color combinations, and none of their hammocks will break the bank.

The brand makes two different sizes of their hammock – a single, and a double. Both of them are made of a lightweight, comfortable, breathable nylon fabric that rivals the fabric used by top quality competitors.

All of their hammocks come with basic hardware and accessories that you can upgrade later.

Wise Owl Outfitters Hammock Review

Whether you choose a single or a double, chances are, you’re still going to be comfortable.

The single is 9 feet long by 4 and a half feet wide, and the double is 10 feet long by 6 and a half feet wide.

The single weighs one pound, and the double weighs a pound and ten ounces. The material is super soft and easy to sleep on – it isn’t scratchy, like the material of some hammocks in the same price range.

All of the seams are finished with triple interlocking stitching for maximum durability.

They have color schemes for hunters and color schemes for beachgoers – these hammocks are designed to be used in a wide variety of situations.

Every hammock comes with ropes and carabiners for your convenience.

  • A few styles of their hammocks come in bundles with the straps included. You can purchase things separately, or you can save a few bucks by getting everything at once.
  • Their double hammock is very spacious, so taller or wider campers will appreciate the extra room.
  • This hammock is constructed out of a material called 210T nylon, which is the exact same material used to make skydiving parachutes. You know it’s reliable, and it can withstand even a heavy windstorm.
  • Wise Owl hammocks come in both high visibility and low visibility color schemes. Campers who prefer to conceal their campsites, such as those who intend to hunt while they’re out, will appreciate the natural shades.
  • The weight limit on this hammock is an impressive 400 pounds for the double version. If you’re worried about the limits on a single, you can always opt for a double and hang some of your gear from the straps.
  • Not all of the styles come with straps. If you prefer to use straps, you may have to buy them separately.

Wise Owl Outfitters proves that it’s possible to get a deluxe style hammock on a budget without having to sacrifice your expectations.

They’re very reasonably priced, and they’re designed to outshine the hammocks that cost a lot more but offer similar quality.

Bargain shoppers will love Wise Owl – these hammocks don’t cost an arm and a leg, and they’ll never let you down.

Grand Trunk

Overall Rating: 7

Grand Trunk is another great hammock brand to purchase your camping hammock from. They offer several different models to choose from and make their hammocks out of good quality materials.

Grand Trunk hammocks are designed for the ‘rugged’ adventures.

You don’t have to spend the night hiding from bugs and mosquitoes, these hammocks include a separate bug net to ensure you are safe and comfortable from mosquitoes and other biting insects.

The netting usually attaches to the hammock using a double-sided zipper and seals the bugs out. The hammock and net combination is quite flexible as you can flip it with the netting-side down to enjoy as you would with a parachute nylon hammock.

Be sure to check each model if it has the added accessories included in the price or you need to buy them separately.

Grand Trunk Hammock Review

These hammocks come ready to hang including starter rope kit, carabiners, and the net suspension kit.

They are also compact and lightweight thus unfolds into immediate spaces which remain light and repack easily to take to the road.

The versatility of Grand Trunk hammocks is also unbeatable. They are not only ideal for camping, hiking, and backpacking, but they can also function as great places to relax in your backyard, making them perfect alternatives to some of the best hammock tents, sleeping pads, ground mats or swings.

They are made from 100% parachute nylon – 70D nylon – which is known for durability and endurance to elements while you sleep tight inside.

Multiple tie outs on these hammocks give so much interior space and some like the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro Mosquito Hammock can support a weight capacity of up 400lbs.

  • It weighs less than 2 pounds, but it can hold up to 400 pounds.
  • Equipped with mosquito nets, they protect against mosquito viruses in a no-see-um bug net and an all-in-one hammock. This comes ready to hang along with carabiners and starter rope kit.
  • They have a great deal of interior space thanks to the multiple-outs. With this hammock, you don’t have to sleep curled up in one position or sit up in a particular posture. You can stretch out as much as you like and have enough space to change clothes.
  • Made from high quality and durable material – 100% parachute nylon. You can stay safe in these hammocks without worrying about elements and they are sure to last long.
  • The Skeeter Beeter does not come with a tarp for wind or rain, and it is also shaped like a traditional hammock, which means it does not allow you to lay flat and sleep comfortably.

The Grand Trunk offers hammocks for the most adverse conditions. They offer some of the best hammocks for snow camping, thru-hiking and winter backpacking trips.

Among the features that make them great for those unfavorable conditions are the mosquito net protection and the durable nylon construction.

They are sure to withstand elements without you having to do anything; just sleep soundly in a no-see-um bug net for a couple of days and go home unharmed.

Despite all the wonderful things it has, for the price of this camping hammock, the Skeeter Beeter Pro is a great choice for people who only want to camp in their hammock on occasion or are just wanting to try it out before investing more money.

For me personally, this hammock would not be the way to go!

Winner Outfitters

Overall Rating: 7

Winner Outfitters is a smaller brand, and their products are designed to be comparable to bigger brand names.

While the brand itself doesn’t have a lot of options, what they do have to offer is worthy of your money.

They make kits that come in bundles, with everything ready to go for your next adventure. This is great for people who don’t want to fuss around with purchasing everything piece by piece.

While the company doesn’t offer many separate bonus accessories, such as rain fly attachments or mosquito nets, you’ll get everything you need for a camping trip in nice weather.

You can use it in your backyard or you can use it in the woods on a cool, breezy spring weekend.

Fortunately, their hammock bundles are very inexpensive. If you’re new to hammock camping or you don’t intend to do it very often, you’re getting the best value for your money.

Not only are these hammocks affordable – they’re durable, as well.

Winner Outfitters Hammock Review

The Winner Outfitters Double Camping hammock homes in four different colors, and it’s very inexpensive.

It can hold a lot of weight, it’s easy to set up, and all of the accessories come in the bag.

  • This hammock is ready to set up the minute you get it. You don’t have to buy anything else.
  • The double hammock can hold up to 500 pounds of weight – way more than what the average camper would ever need.
  • You’re getting both ropes and straps in the package, so you can choose which one you want to use.
  • This is a small brand, so they don’t yet offer accessories like insect nets or rain fly attachments.

If the price is your top concern, Winner Outfitters is probably right for you.

All of the gear is basic, but if you don’t need intense camping gear, why spend all that money on something you’re barely going to use?

This is a good entry level hammock for the occasional weekend camper, and it’s priced affordably enough to purchase it for a child or teen that really loves the outdoors.

The only difference from all of the other cheap hammocks you find is that these have a different type of carabiners. Which doesn’t really make a difference if you ask me.

Overall Rating: 6

While Kammok makes great hammocks, they are more known for making good daytime hammocks.

You could certainly use a hammock for camping if you wanted to, but most people prefer to stick with ENO or Hennessy.

Kammok has good quality materials for their hammocks, but they do not offer all of the protection from the elements that other camping hammocks offer.

Kammok Hammock Review

Kammok Roo is made for two people and is one of the most luxurious, roomiest, and comfortable daytime hammocks on the market.

It weighs slightly less than 1.5 lbs which is somewhat heavy for a single layer open model hammock.

However, it would certainly weigh more if it were to include all of the extras to keep you protected from rain, wind, and bugs.

The hammock spreads to 10”L x 5’7L, folding out to the size of a queen bed. When packing it away, it compresses to 5.5”L x 6.5” H x 4.5” W, making it an ultra-portable gear for backcountry camping.

The Roo is sturdily constructed using diamond-ripstop nylon, climbing rated technology and Lunarwave fabrics. A water-resistant stuff sack is included for easy packing.

While the single layer of the Kammock’s fabric is quite insulating, I recommend beefing it up with a mattress or pads if you have to use it overnight.

  • There is a lot room in the hammock, and it can hold up to 500 pounds.
  • It is extremely comfortable, and it is made of very durable materials.
  • It has a solid construction. With triple stitching, climbing-rated carabiners and slings, the Roo offers unmatched durability. The diamond-ripstop nylon helps to reduce stretch thus ensuring every hang is consistently comfortable.
  • The cons of owning a Kammok Roo is that there is little protection from elements such as wind and rain.
  • The hammock is considered heavy for not having all of the extra accessories, and it does not come with straps.

The vast size makes it a perfect addition to any campsite as it offers a great place for people to sit, drink coffee, socialize and even stargaze together in late evenings.

Although, the very durable materials that make up this hammock also make it very heavy and not ideal for backpacking.

Its lack of protection from the elements makes it a great hammock for relaxing in a park or going on a day hike, but it is not recommended or overnight trips.

Overall Rating: 8

Warbonnet is a great brand for people who want to be comfortable while they are camping in their hammock.

While a lot of their models are still lightweight, they are not the best brand for people who plan to camp in their hammock while they are backpacking.

Warbonnet Hammock Review

Warbonnet Blackbird is the most popular and highly recommended Warbonnet hammocks. It is known for being exceptionally comfortable and variable as you can purchase it in different layer and fabric options.

  • You can sleep flat in this hammock thanks to its asymmetrical design.
  • It also has a shelf panel for you to store your gear in, and you can choose from different padding and material, which means you can make it more durable or lighter depending on your needs.
  • The Blackbird hammock is definitely on the expensive end of the cost spectrum even though it does not come with carabiners or stakes.
  • It is also on the short side of camping hammocks, so if you are close to or taller than six feet tall, you will want to buy a different model.

This is a great camping hammock for people who want to be comfortable and are less concerned with weight and packability for backpacking.

If you have enough money to spend on a more luxurious camping hammock, then this would be a great investment for you!

Hummingbird Hammocks

Overall Rating: 6

Hummingbird hammocks boast being the lightest hammocks in the market weighing around 30% less than all competitor products.

Yet, weight isn’t the only thing Hummingbird cares about; they’ve also designed their hammocks to pack small and travel awesomely.

Hummingbird Hammocks Ultralight Single Plus Hammock

These hammocks have no heavy metal pieces; rather they have Hummingbird’s button links. The button links feature 1500lb Spectra cord which is pretty easy to assemble. The button links can be compressed and packed into the hammock thus resulting in a compact and lighter hammock.

The fabric on these hammocks is the real deal. They are precisely made from the actual parachute nylon fabric PIA-C-44379 that is only made in the United States.

This is the same material used in every BASE jumping and skydiving parachute system.

The parachute fabric is uncoated so as to keep the hammocks from feeling sticky against your skin. Hummingbird hammocks are usually thin as a result of the uncoated nature of the material yet with a minimum tensile strength of 50lbs sq. inch.

You can stay assured of a comfortable rest or sleep knowing that you’re held safe and sound.

These hammocks are lock stitched – stitch type 301 – with mil-spec bonded nylon thread. The seams are double stitched at 7-11 stitches per inch to comply with FAA Parachute rigging standards.

Anything more than that risks puncturing the texture which may bring about fabric disappointment.

The advantage with lock stitching, as opposed to chain stitching seen on numerous different hammocks, is that it creates a stronger stitch that is a great deal less inclined to unwind. It can also keep on performing admirably even if part of the seam is compromised.

  • These hammocks are a featherweight. They’ll go anywhere, everywhere, anytime; just toss it in your hiking backpack and you’ll always have a wonderful place to rest.
  • Built from strong actual parachute material. Designed to match the FAA Parachute fixing standards, you can rest assured they’ll have you securely and soundly suspended.
  • Compact and easy to pack away. Hummingbird values your pack space and respects it so they offer hammocks that take up as little space in your pack as possible.
  • The material is so light so somehow these hammocks trade a bit of insulation for lightweight. You might be forced to buy separate insulation layers such as blankets.

Hummingbird hammocks are the perfect gear for you who minds about keeping your pack weight a minimal as possible.

They’re also designed to pack small thus ensuring they take up little space and leave you with enough to carry other items.

The material is top notch and conforms to FAA parachute rigging standards resulting to a more grounded hammock. These hammocks will go wherever you want and let you relax comfortably.
